I took up indoor volleyball at the invitation of a friend when I was in grade 3 of elementary school. After attending Bunkyo Gakuin University Girls Junior & Senior High School and Aoyama Gakuin University, I joined the NEC Red Rockets, contributing significantly to the team winning two consecutive titles in the Volleyball Summer League. In 2015, I switched to beach volleyball, winning several championships both in Japan and overseas. I joined NTT in April 2018.

Akiko HASEGAWA and Azusa FUTAMI won the JBV Shinagawa Open!
At the beach volleyball “JBV Shinagawa Open” held on May 4 and 5, 2019, the pair of Akiko HASEGAWA (NTT COMWARE) and Azusa FUTAMI (Toray Engineering) were victorious.
This event was held in a specially made court, with white sand spread over Ekimae-Chuo-dori Street in front of Oimachi Station in Shinagawa City, which is home to Olympic beach volleyball venue Shiokaze Park.
For the finals and the preliminary round (held in Omori, Ota City, on Day 1 of the event) combined, thanks in part to the wonderful weather during Golden Week, the event drew some 10,000 spectators (as officially announced by the JBV), and the final match was played in front of a huge crowd.
After HASEGAWA and FUTAMI took the first set 21-19, their opponents caught up for a score of 11-10 after a technical time-out in the second set before HASEGAWA and FUTAMI again went on the attack to ultimately win the set brilliantly with a score of 21-18.
Following the match, the pair also interacted with the many fans who had come to watch the event, which gave both players a huge boost of energy as they look towards the upcoming beach volleyball season.
Winning the very first beach volleyball competition in Japan since the era change from “Heisei” to “Reiwa” was an auspicious start for the pair.
Please continue your support for the Aki-azu pair (HASEGAWA and FUTAMI) in the future!
