NTT joins "The Valuable 500" initiative to promote Disability Inclusion and conducts a first-time trial of the "OriHime-D", a robot controlled remotely by people with disabilities

NTT Corporation (NTT; headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Jun Sawada) today announced that it endorsed and joined "The Valuable 500"*1, an initiative to promote the participation of disabled people in business, on December 9, 2019.

"The Valuable 500" was launched at the World Economic Forum's Annual Summit in Davos in January, 2019 and aims to get global leaders to commit to accountable action on disability inclusion to bring the business, social and economic value of people living with disabilities across the world. NTT agrees with "The Valuable 500"'s belief and commits to the following activities:

  1. Sharing Values-the core principles that support our activities-"Connect", "Trust", and "Integrity", we will encourage a culture of D&I by creating a workplace where all employees, including employees with disabilities, can feel that they belong and they can work as who they are.
  2. We have set a target for the employment rate for employees with disabilities in our business goals.
  3. We will actively share our activities regarding disability internally and externally using various media to improve the accessibility of information.
  4. We will aim to develop services and products that enable people with disabilities to become more integrated into society, and we will keep reviewing the accessibility we build and deploy.
  5. We will keep educating our employees to learn D&I including Disability, and to become more inclusive.

In addition, as part of the activities to promote the participation of disabled people in the workforce, NTT will conduct a trial of Robot "OriHime-D"*2 controlled by people with physical disabilities remotely at NTT reception from February, 2020. People with disabilities will control the "OriHime-D" remotely to communicate and guide guests visiting NTT to meeting rooms. This will be the first-time trial for the "OriHime-D" at an actual workplace.

NTT group will continue to promote "Diversity and Inclusion" towards employees, including those with disabilities, and aim to increase its corporate value.

*2Robots measuring 1.2 meters tall, controlled by people with disabilities, can take orders and serve foods. They can been seen at the cafe called "DAWN" which is conducted with NTT's special sponsor.
