Publication of "NTT Technology Report for Smart World 2020"

Tokyo - May 28, 2020- NTT CORPORATION (NTT) released "NTT Technology Report for Smart World 2020", which summarizes 11 technology trends that will become important in considering future changes in the world.
These 11 technologies are currently being researched and developed around the world, and we are also actively engaged in them. In addition, they include technologies which support the IOWN (Innovative Optical and Wireless Network) initiative * 1, which was first proposed in last year's report, and which are expected to be further utilized through the IOWN initiative. While keeping the 11 types of technologies intact, this year the latest technological trends are explained with the latest NTT's research and development initiatives. The report also introduces the progress of the IOWN initiative, the technology development roadmap, and the establishment of a global forum.
NTT will promote innovative research and development to solve various social issues and create a "Smart" society.

IOWN (Ion: Innovative Optical and Wireless Network) is a future communication infrastructure that realizes a smart world and utilizes the latest optical and information processing technologies.

1. Background

In order to solve various social issues such as environmental problems, food crises, and social and economic system changes associated with the novel coronavirus, NTT is continuously promoting research and development to change technologies into "Natural" and make the world a "Smart".

2. Summary

Following on from the previous year, we have compiled a technology report focusing on 11 important technologies that are emerging as trends in the world. We will show you how 11 technologies can create a smart world, from technologies that are already being researched and put into practical use in various fields, to emerging technologies that are expected to grow significantly in the future. In addition, we introduce the structure and technology development roadmap of the IOWN initiative, which we announced last year, as well as the establishment of a global forum.
