NTT Corporation
Tokyo - Nov.13, 2023 - The joint research group consisting of RIKEN, Kyushu University, Fixstars Corpora-tion, NTT Corporation (NTT), and Fujitsu Limited achieved first place in the breadth-first search (BFS) category of Graph500 using Fugaku, Japan's fastest super-computer. The Graph500 BFS list ranks supercomputers based on their graph analysis performance, reflecting their applicability to big data processing. Additionally, NTT independently secured fifth place in the Green BIG DATA category of Graph500 using a commodity GPU server, marking the highest position among systems that utilize commercially available CPUs and GPUs. The Graph500 Green list ranks systems by their energy efficiency in graph analysis. The rankings were announced on November 14, 2023, at the International Conference for High Performance Computing, Net-working, Storage, and Analysis (SC23).
NTT began participating in Graph500 from June 2022 and has developed an ap-proach for energy-efficient BFS on a GPU. This approach consists of (i) GPU-optimized graph compression, (ii) search-direction control with fewer memory accesses, and (iii) precomputation to prune redundant searches. Alongside these efforts, NTT joined the joint research group last summer to explore high-performance computing approaches for coping with exponentially growing data volumes in the world. In the spirit of in-novation and academic excellence, NTT remains committed to advancing cutting-edge data processing technologies, contributing significantly to future breakthroughs in the global computing landscape.
