News Highlights:
TOKYO - October 8, 2025 - NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS, Inc. (formerly NTT Communications Corporation; Headquarters: Chiyoda, Tokyo; President and CEO: Katsushige Kojima; hereinafter "NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS") and NTT, Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda, Tokyo; President and CEO: Akira Shimada; hereinafter "NTT") have been conducting technical demonstrations of the Communication Stabilization Solution (hereinafter referred to as "the Solution"), designed for mobility applications such as autonomous vehicles that require stable communication while in motion. Based on the results of these demonstrations, NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS is now launching the Solution for customers aiming to carry out autonomous driving demonstration experiments and move toward social implementation.
In recent years, a serious shortage of personnel responsible for operating regional public transportation has emerged. As a countermeasure, initiatives toward the social implementation of Level 4 autonomous driving are accelerating across Japan. NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS and NTT have participated in autonomous driving demonstration experiments nationwide, working to stabilize communications for remote monitoring, which is essential for realizing Level 4 autonomous driving.
In communications for autonomous driving, risks to driving safety have become apparent, such as temporary instability in wireless quality caused by base station switching or area interference, which can result in interruptions to remote monitoring video. In addition, multiple technologies required to stabilize communication quality have traditionally been offered separately, creating challenges such as long lead times during deployment.
The Solution establishes multipath connections across multiple communication lines between autonomous vehicles and the remote monitoring system. By proactively predicting changes in wireless quality and controlling multipath connections, it provides a highly reliable communication environment that reduces the risk of interruptions in remote monitoring video.
In addition, by using a data linkage system, it is possible to transmit multiple types of data, such as driving data, information detected by in-vehicle sensors, and AI image analysis results, to the remote monitoring system in real time.
By packaging these technologies together, municipalities and other organizations aiming for the social implementation of autonomous driving can shorten lead times during deployment and more easily make use of advanced communication technologies.
Conceptual Image of the Solution
The Solution is composed of the following three technologies:
By utilizing the Solution, it becomes possible to visualize communication conditions, enhance communication stability, and ensure stable data transmission. (Reference data: In a demonstration environment, while the percentage of communication delay meeting the 400 ms benchmark for autonomous driving was 95 percent, applying this technology showed that the benchmark was satisfied at 99 percent. Without the technology, Line 1 achieved 92 percent and Line 2 only 53 percent(5).)

Please contact a NTT DOCOMO BUSINESS sales representative for details.
By stabilizing communications through the Solution, we will enable reliable remote monitoring in autonomous driving and contribute to solving regional transportation challenges.
In addition to promoting the social implementation of autonomous driving, we will also work on applying the Solution to other use cases that require communication while in motion, such as construction machinery and robots. Through these efforts, we aim to realize remote operation and automation at construction sites, factories, and warehouses, thereby helping to address challenges including labor shortages and ensuring workplace safety.
1."Level 4 autonomous driving" refers to the automation level defined by SAE International, in which the autonomous driving system performs all driving tasks under specific conditions.
2.Cradio® is a technology of NTT that enables wireless quality prediction based on machine learning.
3."Cooperative Infrastructure Platform" is a technology of NTT that enables multipath communication control across multiple lines in coordination with quality prediction.
4."intdash" is a real-time data transmission system provided by aptpod, Inc.
5.Field demonstrations on stable communication for remote monitoring of autonomous driving were conducted by NTT and NTT DOCOMO. While driving on public roads, video transmission was carried out and the delay between the client and cloud server was measured.
