Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Hiroo Unoura; hereafter NTT) has revised the NTT Group CSR Charter, which serves as the basic principles for each NTT Group company in promoting their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
The NTT Group has been working to achieve sustained growth through the resolution of social issues by referring to the NTT Group CSR Charter, established in 2006 (partially revised in 2011), as its basic principles.
In recent years, attention to environmental, social and governance (ESG) concerns has increased across the globe, as evidenced by the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the UN General Assembly and the COP21 Paris Agreement, along with growing expectations by shareholders, investors and other stakeholders for companies to align management strategy with CSR strategy. In this context, despite the NTT Group's significant transformation of its business domains through the development of its global business and B2B2X business model, its CSR Charter had been premised on the information and telecommunications business in Japan, and it contained content that was not expressed with the entire value chain in mind. We therefore decided to revise the charter to reflect the global scope of our business activities, including the value chain.
The CSR Charter consists of two parts: "Our Commitment" which states the Group's commitment to CSR, and the "CSR Goals" which outline specific priority aspects of our CSR activities.
The CSR Goals are expressed under the following themes: "Enrich Social Communication," "Protect the Global Environment," "Ensure Reliable Communications" and "Unite the Energies of Team NTT."
The CSR Charter and information about the NTT Group's CSR activities are published on the following website.
