The Sustainability Conference will be held for the 12th year as a forum for NTT Group companies to share sustainability initiatives. This year’s awards ceremony will be hosted in person and online. We received a record-high 169 entries from group companies worldwide, of which 49 outstanding projects were nominated.

We hope that each company takes this opportunity to learn from the wide range of exemplary initiatives and strives to develop businesses that, by “Innovating a Sustainable Future for People and Planet,” further contribute to building a sustainable society.

The conference website features a “Like” button for each initiative, and we encourage all employees to participate.

Hiroyuki Takeda

NTT DOCOMO
Senior Executive Vice President
Chief Sustainability OfficerHiroyuki Takeda

Last year, the DOCOMO Group renewed its Group Vision to "Bridging Worlds with technology and integrity to inspire value creation and fill the world with happiness." and its brand slogan to “Bridging Worlds for Wonder & Happiness.” Aiming for a happy future requires improving society's sustainability, which is our mission.

Based on our Sustainability Policy established in 2022, we strive to address social issues and provide new value through our businesses.

In November 2023, we announced our “2040 Net-Zero” initiative to achieve virtually zero greenhouse gas emissions across our entire supply chain by 2040 to realize a decarbonized society. In September 2023, we published a TNFD Report to promote biodiversity initiatives in tandem with our business operations to realize a future of positive coexistence with nature. In addition, we are actively working towards a resource-recycling society through initiatives such as recycling mobile devices. Furthermore, by providing reasonable accommodations following the revised Act for Eliminating Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities, running a Sustainability School with classes such as “Smartphone/Internet Safety,” listening to every one of our customers, and reflecting, we will continue to help address social issues through technology and human power.

Let us work together as NTT Group to implement sustainability initiatives with a sense of ownership and realize a sustainable society.

Yuji Sasaki

NTT Communications
Executive Vice President (In charge of Sustainability)Yuji Sasaki

At NTT Communications, based on our mission of “Creating communication methods that open up new possibilities for people and our world,” we are committed to solving social issues with the power of digital technology. Japan faces several medium- to long-term issues, including a global environmental crisis, a declining birthrate, an aging population, and regional revitalization. To address these issues, we collaborated with various partners to create a better future through our business operations. In addition, our services, such as the Green Nexcenter and docomo business RINK, have been evolving into greener and more sustainable products.

Now, the Sustainability Conference is once again being held globally this year, and it is a wonderful opportunity to share the various challenges we face with all our employees worldwide and unite around our role in creating a better future.

From NTT Communications, we have nominated Morikachi, which has radically improved the process of creating forest credits, and OPEN HUB, a platform that has produced over 1,000 co-creation businesses in two years.

Let us advance digital transformations that surprise and move us and create a sustainable and happy future.

Senior Executive Vice President
Representative DirectorToshimasa Kumagai

This conference is a good initiative to foster sustainability awareness across the NTT Group and share and expand best practices. I want to thank all who made it possible.

The NTT EAST Group, guided by the purpose to “Co-create a Regional Recycling-Oriented Society,” strives to become a company that leverages its community-based on-site capabilities and technological prowess to co-create a sustainable, recycling-oriented society that gives people hope.

This year, the NTT EAST Group has submitted five initiatives. All work closely with residents and strive to resolve social issues, from the shortage of successors and passing down expertise to creating a related population and recycling regional resources.

Looking forward, we believe that Business equals sustainability. Therefore, we encourage each employee, the driving force behind our efforts, to view sustainability as a personal issue. By working with customers, we will continue to strive to create new value and realize sustainable local communities.

Hidenori Kigami

NTT WEST
Senior Executive Vice President
Representative DirectorHidenori Kigami

As this conference is now in its 12th year with many participants from Japan and overseas, I look forward to the opportunity to promote our sustainability and co-creation initiatives further.

The NTT WEST Group was awarded the Grand Prize two years in a row for Realization of a Carbon Neutral Society through Forest and Forestry DX two years ago and Realization of an Inclusive Society through the Employment of People with Disabilities and the DX (Digital Transformation) of Regional Companies last year. This conference has also bolstered our other projects, but our forestry DX initiatives have expanded and evolved into concrete businesses and partners in financial institutions.

Three NTT WEST Group projects were nominated this year. They are A generative AI–based D&I promotion tool to address unconscious biases, Initiatives to build a regional smart city that aims for sustainable development, and Relief programs for the 2024 Noto Earthquake to restore and rebuild essential services. Our ambitious initiatives seek to address social issues through ICT and our organization.

Together with our local communities and customers, the NTT Group will collectively strive to create new value towards realizing a sustainable and more inclusive society.

Kazuhiko Nakayama

NTT DATA Group
Director and Senior Executive Vice PresidentKazuhiko Nakayama

Since its establishment, the NTT DATA Group has expanded its business operations by providing services to customers and society. It abides by its mission statement: “NTT DATA Group uses information technology to create new paradigms and values that help contribute to a more affluent and harmonious society.”

Due to sociocultural shifts and the prevalence of IT and digital technology, corporate activities, consumption, and lifestyle habits have also changed. For example, as the use of generative AI progresses, AI ethics, governance, and human rights will need to be considered. Our group views these social issues as opportunities for growth as we aim to create a sustainable society with our customers.

Since our business consolidation with NTT Ltd. in October 2022, our group’s overseas sales ratio has exceeded 60% by the end of the fiscal year 2023, and the ratio of overseas employees has also exceeded 70%. Owing to our expansion of global operations, group companies across 15+ countries have submitted 35 projects this year, as the scope of our initiatives has also expanded. We would like to thank all our group employees for another year of bold initiatives.

Kou Ikeda

NTT Urban Solutions
Representative Member of the Board
Senior Executive Vice PresidentKou Ikeda

The NTT Urban Solutions Group is committed to resolving various social issues through urban development by fully leveraging the NTT Group's real estate, ICT, energy, and environmental technology assets.

Last year, we opened next-generation high-performance office buildings in Sendai and Osaka and commercial facilities via park maintenance in downtown Hiroshima. In the other cities, we developed according to each region’s particular attributes to support the creation of unique and vibrant towns.

For our project this year in Osaka City, we are creating a town that maximizes the surrounding area's greenery and history by developing the former site of NTT WEST’s headquarters that faces Osaka Castle and renovating the adjacent Naniwa Palace Site Park. We aim to help resolve Osaka City's issues by promoting sustainability initiatives such as establishing an urban green space in central Osaka and buildings with high environmental performance.

We will continue to cherish our connections with all those involved in community building. As partners that can be trusted and chosen every time, we will contribute to realizing a sustainable society.

The NTT Anode Energy Group has declared its Purpose, part of the “Anode Way” formulated by all employees: “Creating a new common sense in energy through technology and inquisitiveness—to make a beautiful society and sustainable planet.” The realization of a sustainable society is the reason for our existence, and we are optimistic that this conference will play an increasingly important role each year.

The NTT Anode Energy Group is leveraging local strengths to solve issues and promote regional revitalization, such as by providing a “Local Production for Local Consumption of renewable energy” service to local governments as a joint proposer and partner company for the Ministry of the Environment’s selection of “Decarbonization Leading Areas (areas that aim to achieve net-zero CO2 emissions and reductions in greenhouse gases by utilizing local characteristics).” In addition, we continue to deploy NTT Group resources to achieve energy conservation, energy creation, and renewable energy procurement, for example, by supplying renewable energy to companies, including Seven & i Holdings Co., Ltd., and municipalities.

We will continue to strive for both carbon neutrality and economic growth by accelerating our smart energy business as partners trusted by customers.
