Mr. Seizo Onoe is Nominated as 2nd Term Candidate for Director of the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau of ITU by the Japanese government

On June 20, 2025, Mr. Seizo Onoe, who currently serves as ITU Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB) Director, was nominated by the Japanese government as second term (from 2027 to 2030) candidate for the election to be held at the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-26) in Doha, Qatar in November 2026.

In August 2021, Mr. Onoe, who was NTT's Chief Standardization Strategy Officer (CSSO), was nominated as first term candidate for TSB Director, which is responsible for the international standardization of telecommunications standards within the ITU. At ITU PP-22 held in Bucharest, Romania in September 2022, he was elected to his current role through a vote of ITU member states.

NTT will continue to actively contribute to the development of telecommunications field standardization through the ITU, an international standardization organization.

1. Biography of Mr. Seizo Onoe

He joined Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation in 1982. In 2012, he served as Director and Executive Vice President CTO (Chief Technology Officer) of NTT DOCOMO, INC., in 2017 as President and CEO of DOCOMO Technology Inc., and in 2021 as CSSO of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation. He has served as Director-General of the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) since 2023. In 2014, he received the Science and Technology Prize (Development Category) of the Commendation for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan, in 2018, he was awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon, and in 2025, he was awarded the IEEE Jagadish Chandra Bose Medal in Wireless Communications.
