NTT to Host "NTT Startup Challenge" for Third Consecutive Year
~Aiming to Foster New Business Ventures Through Startup Partnerships in APAC & India~

News Highlights:

  1. NTT Group will jointly host the "NTT Startup Challenge," a startup collaboration program launched in 2024. In 2026, the initiative will bring together 15 NTT Group companies, with NTT DATA at its core.
  2. Last year, the program attracted approximately 1,200 applications from startups across Southeast Asia for the Pitch Contest (Pitch Day), and approximately 150 startups were recommended by partner companies through the recommendation-based matching program (Partnership Day), resulting in collaboration initiatives across multiple NTT Group companies.
  3. This year, the target regions for Pitch Day will be expanded to include Australia and India, in addition to Southeast Asia, Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Partnership Day will be co-hosted with NTT DATA, covering not only challenges defined by NTT Group companies in Japan, but also challenges of NTT DATA customers and NTT DATA itself through a recommendation-based matching program.

TOKYO — May 25, 2026 — NTT, Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Member of the Board and President: Akira Shimada; hereinafter "NTT") today announced that it will host the "NTT Startup Challenge1," a startup collaboration program across the NTT Group, for the third consecutive year following its launch in 2024 and 2025.
With the participation of NTT DATA, Inc., which oversees NTT DATA's overseas business, the program will be jointly held by 15 NTT Group companies2. The NTT Startup Challenge Partnership Day will be co-hosted by NTT and NTT DATA.
In addition, as in 2025, prominent venture capital firms in the region, as well as Professor Akie Iriyama from Waseda University, will participate in the program as keynote speakers and judges for the Pitch Contest.
Through this program, the NTT Group aims to accelerate collaboration with overseas startup ecosystems and promote the creation of new businesses.

1. Background:

The NTT Startup Challenge is a collaboration program aimed at creating new business ventures together with overseas startup ecosystems.
In 2026, the program will further expand its scope by adding Australia and India as target regions, aiming to address a broader range of social challenges. In addition, NTT DATA will participate to enhance the assets provided by the NTT Group to the startup ecosystem. Furthermore, by leveraging "Synexia Ventures3," a corporate venture capital fund established in December 2025 in alignment with this program, NTT aims to further contribute to the ecosystem and enhance the feasibility and certainty of open innovation.

2. NTT Startup Challenge Program Details:

(1) Overview:

The program aims to promote collaboration for new business creation with overseas startup ecosystems.
In 2026, the program will further expand its scope to address broader social challenges by adding Australia and India as target regions.
In addition, to enhance the assets provided by the NTT Group to the startup ecosystem, NTT DATA—possessing extensive global assets such as ICT infrastructure, customer base, and innovation centers—will newly participate in the program.
Furthermore, by leveraging "Synexia Ventures," a corporate venture capital fund established in December 2025 in alignment with this program, NTT aims to further contribute to the ecosystem and enhance the feasibility and certainty of open innovation.

(2) Activities:

The NTT Global Business Department, serving as the organizer of this program, leads the implementation of the following activities:

  • Hosting "Partnership Day," a business matching program aimed at fostering new business creation between the NTT Group and mid- to late-stage startups and local companies through strategic partner-driven recommendation-based matching.
  • Hosting "Pitch Day," an open-call pitch contest inviting startups across APAC & India regardless of sector or growth stage.
  • Conducting an overseas new business support "Advisory Program" for NTT Group companies in collaboration with prominent Southeast Asian venture capital firms.
  • Utilizing the corporate venture capital fund "Synexia Ventures" to explore mid- to long-term partnerships with startups, including both collaboration and investment.

(3) Role of NTT Group Companies:

NTT: Program planning and management.
NTT Group Companies: Promoting collaboration and new business development with startups based on their respective focus areas and assets.

(4) Major Collaboration Outcomes to Date

  • Through this program, more than 60 initiatives including investments and collaborations are currently in progress.
  • For Transcelestial, a startup invested in through an existing corporate venture capital function, commercial deployment in Japan has been initiated by NTT ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY (NTT-AT) since February 2026.

  • Through "Synexia Ventures," a corporate venture capital fund established in December 2025 in alignment with this program, NTT made its first investment in April 2026 in SECAI MARCHE. (5) Updates from 2025

  • Partnership Day will be enhanced through collaboration with NTT DATA's Open Innovation Program, providing opportunities involving both customers and operating companies and strengthening efforts toward the execution phase.
  • The target regions for Pitch Day will be expanded to include Australia and India, in addition to Southeast Asia, Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
  • The collaboration framework will be strengthened by integrating investment opportunities through "Synexia Ventures".

3. About NTT Startup Challenge Partnership Day:

(1) Overview:

NTT Startup Challenge Partnership Day is a partner-recommended startup collaboration program aimed at fostering new business creation through collaboration with overseas startup ecosystems.
In 2026, it will be co-hosted with the "Open Innovation Program" organized by NTT DATA, providing more practical collaboration opportunities initiated from both the business challenges of NTT Group companies and the customer challenges of NTT DATA.

Strategic partners: Venture capital firms, government agencies, universities, and local companies

NTT Startup Challenge Pitch Day is a pitch contest and matching program targeting startups in APAC & India interested in collaborating with the NTT Group. The program welcomes applications from all sectors and stages, leveraging the breadth of NTT Group's business domains. More than 1,200 applications are expected, exceeding last year's figure. The top 10 finalist startups will present at the Pitch Contest where winning companies will receive rewards and access to various NTT Group assets (e.g., Investment from CVC, ICT infrastructure, Internal use of Startup solutions).
