Regional Vitalization by Using IoT and AI to Realize Next-Generation Agriculture

Although progress has been made in applying information and communications technology (ICT) in the agricultural field in Japan, the labor shortages due to producers getting older, the danger that skills will not be passed on, and a decline in earning capabilities are social issues. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is promoting "smart agriculture," which uses robot technology and ICT to achieve ultra-labor-saving and high-quality production. As part of this, NTT East has established the NTT Group's first agriculture-centric business, and delivers next-generation greenhouse horticulture solutions.

Working in Unison with Local Governments and
Companies to Realize Local Food Waste Recycling Loops

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is promoting food waste recycling with the aim of halving food loss and waste by 2030, compared to 2000, but there has yet to be much adoption among local food-related companies. Therefore, NTT FIELDTECHNO and its alliance partners have started providing a Food Waste Recycling Solution which requires zero capital investment from participating companies. Food waste generated by food-related companies is collected by food recycling companies and converted to compost. This compost is then provided to agricultural producers, creating a recycling loop within the community. As part of this solution, NTT FIELDTECHNO is using IoT technology and cloud services to centrally manage facilities.

Automate PC operations and improve the efficiency of work. WinActor, the first RPA tool in Japan.

In Japan, where a shortage of labor is appearing due to the arrival of an aging society, work styles are being reformed under the leadership of the government. As part of this, NTT DATA developed WinActor, a software-type robot that learns, as a scenario, operations performed by all the applications available on a Windows PC, such as Excel, browsers, individual work systems, etc., and then automates PC operations. We are responding to the continually increasing need to improve the efficiency of work with this RPA which has the number one share in Japan.
