Sado Living Lab for Sustainability

The Sado Island Nature Coexistence Lab, a living lab jointly operated by Sado City and Niigata University, was established in 2022 as a mechanism for solving social issues through Multi-stakeholder collaboration between citizens, industry, academia, and government.
The lab has launched over 10 projects centered on coexistence with nature, including developing sustainable specialty products, exploring new uses for seaweed and bamboo, visualizing local resources, and fostering talent. Challenging initiatives continue on Sado Island.
Beyond these projects, Sado Island is also being utilized as a testing ground for new business concepts and pilot implementations of new ventures.
