藻類のCO2吸収に関わる遺伝子の選定手法を確立し、二酸化炭素(CO2)吸収量の画期的な増加が期待できる遺伝子の特定に成功した。また、藻類と魚介類の食物連鎖にゲノム編集技術を適用して、海洋中に溶け込んだCO2を低減させるCO2変換技術の実証実験を世界で初めて開始した。
The selection technique of the gene related to the CO2 absorption of the alga was established, and the gene which can expect the epoch-making increase of the carbon dioxide (CO2) absorption quantity was successfully specified. In addition, the demonstration experiment of the CO2 conversion technology which reduces the CO2 dissolved in the ocean by applying the genome editing technology to the food chain of the alga and the seafood was started for the first time in the world.
